NEUROCRANIAL RESTRUCTURING (NCR) What is NCR? NCR is a physical treatment that was developed to help with a variety of ailments. Although it is a relatively new technique, an older form of it has been practiced for nearly 100 years and there is some evidence that similar techniques were used as far back as ancient Egypt. NCR is a more specific form of what is known as bilateral nasal specific technique (BNST). BNST is taught to chiropractors and naturopathic doctors at various schools. NCR, by being less general, it is able to achieve better results without the force that was previously necessary. Put simply, it is a method of adjusting the sphenoid bone, which sits in the center of your skull and connects to virtually every other bone in your head. How does NCR work? Your body is in a constant search for balance. When our skull is not in proper alignment the rest of our body will attempt to compensate by changing the way we sit and stand. This creates a habit of poor posture. Other traumas, such as whiplash, force your body out of alignment in a matter of seconds. This sends your bones and muscles into a state of shock from which they will often not recover on their own. People often report chronic pain after severe accidents. By adjusting the sphenoid bone you allow for the rest of your body to fall into alignment. This takes tension of the skeletal system and allows your muscles to relax. Placing your skull in an optimal alignment also allows for maximum blood flow and neurotransmitter activity throughout the central nervous system. What can I expect from an NCR series? An NCR series consists of 4 treatments done over 4 consecutive days. The treatments for each day are the same, but doing one a day over several days allows for maximum positive movement. You will get a special form of bodywork done, which puts the body in a more balanced state so that the treatment will be more effective and the results will last longer. After the bodywork you will be assessed and then positioned on the table with the help of an assistant. A small nasal balloon will then be inserted into your nose and quickly inflated, deflated, and removed. The process is not painful and is often compared to getting water up your nose. The whole process will be gone over in more detail on your first day and everything will be explained along the way so that there are no surprises. After a series it is recommended that you do not do any abnormally strenuous activity for a couple of weeks to give your body time to adjust to the new alignment. What is NCR good for? NCR is an amazing therapy for a variety of issues, including headaches, migraines, sinus issues, snoring, neck pain, jaw pain, and back pain. It can also have an effect on conditions relating to the central nervous system, such as learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, or depression. Many times patients will come in for one complaint and find that another issue has also resolved. For instance, a person comes in for headaches and finds that their low back pain has disappeared. Some patients find complete relief after one series; others require several over the course of months or years. Often this depends on the duration of the complaint and the severity of the problem. Why I practice NCR I first learned about NCR years ago when a friend recommended that I try it for my chronic migraines. Having exhausted virtually every other option with little to no success, I decided it was worth a try.The first day I received NCR I slept through an entire night with no pain and no headache for the first time in years. With my first series I went from three migraines a week to one the whole month. I have had several series since then, mostly after experiencing physical trauma, and have only have one migraine in the past year and a half. I decided that I needed to learn this treatment and bring the relief to others that I had experienced. Going through this treatment made me more and more interested in helping others with their chronic pain. Listening to people in the waiting room tell their stories only made me more determined. After finishing my medical degree I attended a week-long intensive workshop where I learned and practiced these techniques, with amazing results. I am thrilled to be able to share this therapy with the people of these islands! NCR Rates Want to learn more? Go to www.ncrdoctors.com |
